SAVANNAH — Lanequa Borders’ 12.17 time in the women’s 100-meter dash paced a solid day for the Albany State Track & Field teams at the Savannah State Tiger Relays on Saturday.
Despite the inclement weather that marred most of the events, ASU head coach Kenneth Taylor was very pleased with the showing of his young squads.
“Even though the weather was not conducive to great performances, our young teams persevered,” Taylor said.
In addition to Borders’ second place finish in her event, Andrea Fullmore also made her mark in the women’s events. Competing in the triple and long jump, Fullmore registered jumps of 37-foot-5 and 17-8, respectively. Taylor also praised team captain Sherinna Lewis and Trevonta McTyre for competing in additional events despite facing severe weather conditions.
In the men’s division, freshman sprinter Jared Jordan completed the 100 dash with a 10.73, despite a poor start out of the gates. Veteran runner Untayous Benson also was impressive in the same event, posting a time of 10.76. Timothy Jackson recorded a pole vault of 13-9, while Isaiah Leggett had a long jump of 23-4. Albert Murrey finished the 500 run with a time of 16:40.
“There were many other decent performances, including top finishes by the men’s and women’s relay teams,” Taylor said. “The ASU women’s throwing battery of Cree Ann Perkins, Rhenia Bonner and Brittany Dean are off to their best start ever as a group. These groups are well on their way to having great seasons.”
