The running website Marathonguide.com lists the races across the country which are Boston Marathon qualifiers and the percentage of runners who qualified for the race.
With 21.1 percent of its 708 marathon runners posting a time that qualifies them for Boston, Albany's Snicker Marathon came just three tenths of a percent under top-leading Tallahassee, which had just 307 marathon runners but 21.4 percent qualify. The results are compiled year-to-date.
It’s the first time the race has been among the top 30 in the country since 2010 when it finished the year in the 21st spot with 22 percent. If the numbers hold, the race should end the year in the top 15 in the country by way of comparison to the percentage of Boston Marathon qualifiers last year.
“This is great for us because it means that we’re growing in participation and it’ll help our reputation as a fast course, but also we’re helping people improve their race times so that they can get to Boston,” Beasley said.
Last year, the Santa Rosa (Calif.) Marathon had the highest percentage of runners qualify for Boston, with 34.8 percent. The Steamtown Marathon in Scranton, Penn., was 12th highest at 21 percent.
