Deerfield-Windsor names AP Scholars

ALBANY, Ga. -- The College Board has announced that 22 2012 Deerfield-Windsor School graduates and one current senior have earned AP Scholar designation based on their performances on the 2012 Advanced Placement examinations.

AP courses are college-level courses taught in high school, and students can earn college credit with acceptable scores on the nationally-standardized examinations. DWS School currently offers 13 approved AP courses.

"These bright, motivated young people bring credit to themselves and our School with their outstanding performances," Deerfield-Windsor Headmaster Dave Davies said. "Their scores on these examinations reflect a strong curriculum, outstanding instruction from our faculty, and old fashioned hard work from the students."

Students recognized by the College Board are:

AP Scholars (scores of three or higher on three or more AP exams)

Amy Baker, Hannah Bowe, Mackenzie Davis, Rena Divine, Emily Duvall, Camille Fox, Gil Gillespie, Hope Kitchen, Tracy McGee, Buddy Riles, Katherine Williams, Emily Garland and Kaitlyn Yarborough -- current DWS senior and Dougherty County Star Student,

AP Scholar with Honor (average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of three or higher on four or more of these exams)

Tanner Lowe.

AP Scholars with Distinction (average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of three or higher on five or more of these exams)

Rebecca Allen, Alex Berry, Becca Brown, Nicholas Dinella, Emily Espy, Trey Flynn, Emily Graf, Alan Guan, James Larussa, and Christopher Michas.

National AP Scholar (average score of at least 4 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of four or higher on eight or more of these exams.

Christopher Michas -- Former Dougherty County STAR Student.

According to Davies, these students have seen such success in part because of the school's outstanding faculty. Four DWS teachers have experience as AP readers, having been selected from applicants across the country to help grade AP exams during their summer break.

Debbie Allen -- AP Composition (current Dougherty County Star Teacher)

William "Steven" Brohawn -- AP American History.
