City of Atlanta, Falcons agree on stadium deal

ATLANTA -- Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank and mayor Kasim Reed are expected to announce an agreement to build a new stadium in downtown Atlanta, according to WAGA-TV.

Reed accelerated the city's efforts to complete a deal for a stadium that would replace the Georgia Dome since Falcons team president Rich McKay made comments in early February that the franchise was open to relocating to the suburbs if the city couldn't meet its needs.

Those needs specifically include a price tag of an estimated $1 billion for a retractable roof stadium that would help the city retain chances at major sporting events, including the Final Four, Super Bowl and other sports such as international soccer.

The Falcons and NFL, through a stadium expense program created to fund construction and renovation projects, likely would be responsible for as much as $800 million of the estimated bill.

There was no vote from the state legislature -- nor is one required -- but many in the state have been vocal in opposition of any public funding for the new stadium. Reed said in February the city would be able to come up with the $200 million required through bonds and supported by a hotel tax.

Why Why Why???? There is nothing wrong with the DOME!!! It generates plenty of money as it is. What are you going to do with the old DOME??????

Compared to the other stadiums it is outdated.

Hey Bubba, why don't you buy Arthur Blank out, then you can keep your old dome, but I guess that would be hard to do, Your government check doesn't stretch that far.

A complete waste of money and resourses. If Blank has extra money, perhaps he could fund our riveraquarium. As to the Ga Dome being outdated, how about the Superdome or, for God's sake, the Rose Bowl? Or maybe a billion dollars to spend on furloughed teachers.

Why in the Sam hell would Blank put money into our riverquarium? He probably doesn't even know it exists. Why should Blank give a rats ass about the Superdome? Let New Orleans worry about that. Same thing goes for the Rose Bowl. Blank is the owner of the Falcons, if it's his money he can do what he wants with it.

Who are you to talk about waste of money? You normally support projects that wastes taxpayers money.

Reportedly the new stadium will have a retractable dome, and will guarantee us a Super Bowl in one of the following years. We will get other large events there with regularity as well...
