DOUGLASVILLE — The Darton softball team increased its winning streak to five games with a pair of victories Thursday against West Georgia Tech, winning the opener, 6-2, and then cruising in the nightcap, 6-0.
In the first game, freshman Savannah Carlisle improved to 10-1 on the mound and allowed five hits, while Chelsea Showers (3-for-4, two doubles, three stolen bases), Bree Wells (2-for-4, double, two RBI) and Melissa Dearth (2-for-4, RBI) led the Lady Cavs at the plate.
Jostlyn Higgerson pitched a two-hitter in the second game and struck out seven, Heather Sexton was 3-for-4 with a solo home run and Wells was 2-for-3 and drove in two runs.
The No. 10 Lady Cavs (21-6) play again Saturday at home in a doubleheader against Tallahassee Community College before heading down to Florida on Sunday for two more games against TCC.

South Georgia Tech’s Anthony Ethridge and Octavius Green and Albany Tech’s Nouhoum Boucoum were all honored by Region XVII recently.
Ethride, a First-Team selection and Freshman of the Year, led the Jets with 18.7 points and 8.8 rebounds a game, while Green, a Second-Team selection, finished with averages of 12.9 points and 13 rebounds.
Boucoum was named to the honorable mention and All-Freshman teams after scoring 10.4 points and grabbing 5.8 rebounds a game.
GSW MEN’S GOLF RANKED IN NATION’S TOP 25: The Georgia Southwestern men’s golf team moved into the Top 25 in the latest NCAA Division II Golfstat standings released this past Thursday.
GSW earned their first tournament championship of the season winning the Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate Invitational on Feb. 12.
Freshman Anders Olsson led Southwestern with a tournament-low 66 to finish tied for the individual runner up in the 89-player tournament at Fleming Island, Fla., with a two-day total of 1-under 141.
Georgia Southwestern returns to action Monday as the Hurricanes travel to Valdosta to take part in the Southeastern Collegiate hosted by Valdosta State University at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.
Westover soccer shuts out Worth, 5-0
ALBANY — Katie Brown scored two goals to lead the Westover girls soccer team to a 5-0 win Thursday against Worth County, keeping the Lady Patriots undefeated in Region 1-AAAA play.
Nellie Young added a goal and an assist; Amie Loudermilk and Kelsey Breasette each scored goals; and Tan Young and Jasmine Young each picked up assists.
Westover (6-1, 5-0) plays again Tuesday at home against Albany High.
