Squawk of the Day - March 10, 2013

"Just saw pictures of Japan’s recovery from the tsunami. They have done wonders, unlike people here who wait for someone else to take care of them. There are citizens here who do work to make things better, but we sure don’t recover as fast as they have in Japan."

We've spoiled some of our citizens by making them wards of the states... not all but they're people out there with no work ethics and just wait for the government to help them.. shame on our government for letting this happen.. remember people saying "I'll dig ditches to feed my family".. not any more ..it's to easy to get entitlements... no more ditch digging.. no more pride

You may want to do some research about the treatment of the 'undesirables' in Japanese culture. Comparing the US to any country using American standards is pointless. Japan is not America whose residents speak Japanese; it is an entirely different culture.

The Japanese-Americans who were sent to concentration camps in Utah recovered well too, Shame on our government for this too.

If my memory serves me right, the US government paid restitution to those Japanese-Americans who were sent to concentration camps. I am still waiting on my 40 acres and a mule.

Special Field Order #15 was revoked at the end of that year by the white men of Savannah. All the lands on the islands that freed blacks were to have received returned to white ownership. Many of the coastal islands are protected refuges; Sapelo is not.

Anyhow, the point was to research Japanese culture; why do you think the country was repaired so quickly?

What do the Irish get? They were indentured for 150 years and no one died to free them. Got no 13th ammendment just the 16th. No food stamps, Medicaid, WIC, not even a piece of bubble gum. Finally the Irish were allowed to move next to the English, Germans, Negros and Jews.

It depends on whether they were catholic or protestant; why don't you do some research and see what they got. Tammany Hall? Boston?

I don't know what we are entitled to in America, other than our Freedom to worship, Free speech, to bear arms etc and we abuse these entitlements. I earned every dime i receive from Social Security, unlike so many others that are on welfare and SSI. Yet there are so very many that sit under a shade tree or on porches all day long and do nothing other than wait for the mail to run. The churches are supposed to help the true needy and the rest are to work and earn their keep. If they are going to get these so called entitlements they should have to clean the streets, highways right of way etc to earn it.

Folks are in bondage to the Democratic party. A very cheap way to get their vote and use taxpayers money to get it. Japan would not allow sloveness in their country. This is one reason the USA will not be around 100 years from now. Get ready! Japan may even own us someday and we will be speaking Japanese.

We are one of the fool Countries that has suplimented Flood insurance. Allowing folks that do not have the resources to live on a Creek, River or Ocean where flooding is a distinct possibility, while we pick up the tab when a flood or high tide happens. There are not enough members of the flood insurance pool to pay for these disasters, yet they get paid for out of the general fund. From what I saw on TV we will be paying for at least two houses on Plum Island from this weekends storm. If these folks want to build there, let them do it at their own risk, not the American Taxpayers. Have them buy commercial, non-subsidized, Flood Insurance if they want to stay there. Next will be the grants to rebuild the missing beaches. We are indeed Fools. We support the Rich, for one most certainly has to be rich to afford million dollar beach houses, while they spend their time running us off their beach.

Over in Japan, they were probably able to concentrate on rebuilding without the fear of getting shot at. Unlike America in New Orleans where the locals were shooting at everybody trying to come in and help.

Plus a lot of Americans are too busy holding their hands out for something free to worry about lending a helping hand after a disaster.

Well, I'll tell you about another songfest. Today at the Albany Art Museum, Dr. Leroy Bynum, world class tenor and Ms. Gina Lawhon, piano player. Dr. Bynum fired off a ripsnorter that kept us all spell bound performing in German, Die schöne Müllerin by Franz Schubert. Accompanied by Ms. Lawhon who tore the ivory off the keys in front of a mixed race audience of Chinese, Negros, Crackers (saltines) and Mormons (no Irish). I got so worked up over the production I rushed home and mixed up a mess of sauerbraten and spaetzle. I fully expect ABC,CBS and FOX to report on it.

Albany is very lucky to have Dr. Bynum.
