Mail to Columbus.. goes to Albany to Tallahassee to Macon to Columbus. . . Don't seem cost productive.
Since when has any part of the government had to worry about being cost effective.
The USPS is not a government agency. It is a commercial enterprise. usps.com, not .gov
"Commercial enterprise," or whatever, the taxpayers should not have to bail it out - it either makes money or it doesn't! It's the computer age and if a business can't handle it, it should close shop and go home. I do everything online and I don't need USPS. Send a package? There's always FED-EX and UPS!
Not a government agency? They sure take all the government holidays.
Hay, it was done to save money. Outlaw the internet and you won't have underfunding as a problem anymore for the Post Office. Then again without the Telegraph the Pony Express would still be viable. It is called necessary change, live with it.
It is not change that is the problem with the post office, it is waste and their inability to do what you pay them to do. You pay for Priority mail (and it ain't cheap) and it takes them a week to deliver and a regular First Class piece of mail gets there ahead of the Priority.
Can someone explain to me how it is saving the post office (or anyone for that matter) money when I mail a letter in Sylvester to be delivered in Dawson and it goes to Tallahassee before being sent back to Georgia for delivery in Dawson? I do not understand that logic.
It's not computers that are bankrupting the U.S. Postal disService, it's their retirement plan.
It's the Congressional requirement that future employees' retirement has to be prepaid in cash from operational revenue. Their retirement benefits are not the issue. If you want to see the real problem look at Congressional benefits and perqs.
Yes, and are they proposing any cuts to these " entitlements" ?
Don't forget the exaggerated wages, job entitlement mentality, and the fact that they do not have to work hard in order to keep their high paid job.
I did an experiment. I mailed a letter from Lumpkin, GA and one from Cuthbert. The Cuthbert got back to me in 2 days, took three for the Lumpkin one. What you are going to have to do is be careful where you mail it from. My Saturday mail was delivered at 4:30 PM and anyone who had mail in their box, did not go out until today. I only mail 2 items for payment and both of those will be paid off in a few months. Columbus has lost their sorter and all of it is sent ot Macon, figure that, while Sumter Co. has 6 post offices and Dougherty Co. has 5 and we are fixing to lose one. Show me the math on that stupidity. The downtown post office does more business in 2 hours than 3 of the others does in two weeks. Money thrown away is putting it mildly. You can mail a Priority Mail package to Tallahassee will arrive in 3 days but only takes 2 days to go to Los Angelos. Go figure. The post office is headed for extinction.
The USPS has deteriorated dramatically in the last few months. Our company depends on first class mail service for a number of things including billing, paying, shipping and receivables. We have had lost mail repeatedly. One was the 941 filing and luckily it was sent out certified and could be traced so we avoided issues. Presently we are looking for improvement at USPA before we begin considering going computerized. The USPS is going through Draconian cuts because Rep. Darrell Issa, a CA car thief magnate who as chair of The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform refuses to allow the Post Office to revise it's method of financing retirement programs. He hates the Postal Service and thinks it should be privately owned by a bunch of his thug friends and so he's trying to kill it.
you've got that right! but that's just one small piece of the overall Republican agenda to dismantle the federal government entirely. If they get their way, everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) that is currently owned or administered or held in public trust by the government will be privatized. So, you can do nothing and kiss it goodbye (your Social Security, pensions, national parks, Post Office, public schools, libraries, roads, etc) or you can vote the @#$%ards out in 2014.
Republican agenda LOL! we all know what the Democratic agenda is and that is to bankrupt this country to turn it into a socialist nation. Obama and the democrats main goal is to destroy this country. I agree with one thing. Let's vote all the democratic @#$%ards out in 2014.
"we all know what the Democratic agenda is and that is to bankrupt this country to turn it into a socialist nation. Obama and the democrats main goal is to destroy this country." Is that true or did you hear it on FOX News? LOL!
Personally, I think he's right. Obama is out to bankrupt this country. He just wants to spend spend spend and send millions of dollars to his muslim country buddies instead of paying off some of our debt. Obuma isn't interested in paying off the debt, he just wants to add to it.
I don't buy that it is a Republican Agenda. I believe it is an agenda of Rep. Darrell Issa, a CA car thief magnate who as chair of The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform wants to kill the postal service in favor of his thug friend's private enterprise. The GOP is fragmented and the old Reagan, Nixon, Eisenhower, GHW Bush, Ford folks are no longer in control. The control source is the dark side of the Force with the gutless wussies (Cantor, Isakson, etc.) hanging on for survival.
I cannot believe taxpayer money is being used to create commercials trying to save the postal service. What a waste.
do your homework, KIA.
"It's rather ironic that this misinformation campaign was paid for with our tax dollars — the same tax dollars Issa says he wants to protect."
Snail mail...Now a reality.
Face it, 95% of the mail most people receive these days are advertisements or junk mail. People don't need to buy stamps like they used to. Most bills can be paid online so no need to mail or be mailed a bill if it is done paperless. There just is not a large demand for mail service like it used to be, but I guess you can blame that on the republicans too right? After all republicans get blamed for everything else when the Dumbocrats are just as guilty if not more guilty.
