Lee County back in hunt for interim administrator

LEESBURG, Ga. -- Lee County commissioners are looking for a new interim county administrator following the sudden withdrawal of Jack Krakeel, former county administrator of Fayette County, because of health reasons.

Lee Commission Chairman Rick Muggridge announced Tuesday night that Krakeel withdrew his name from formal appointment because of an "acute onset of health issues."

Commissioners had previously agreed to offer Krakeel a six-month contract at a salary of $50,000.

Commissioners went into executive session Tuesday night following their regularly-scheduled meting to discuss their options. When they emerged from the closed session, no action was taken.

Krakeel became ill last week during a visit to Lee County to find housing before beginning work on March 18. County Administrator Tony Massey is leaving Friday to accept a position in Tennessee.

Yea the Albany area has a way of doing that to people who are not from here. Quite a shock when you actually get here. Im sure he will be better in a couple days.

It would be hard for me to turn down $50,000 for just a 6 month job. I don't make that much in 12 months. That would be a nice way to make a living. Work 6 months for $50,000. Take 6 months off, then take another job for 6 months, take another 6 months off etc.
