Some of the participants in the Cancer Coalition of South Georgia’s RIDEforHOPE at Tony’s Gym prepare for “Fighter Pilot; the Ride.” The event raised more than $11,000 for cancer awareness. Top-rated SPIN instructors, including Josh Taylor, were on hand for the event.
ALBANY, Ga. — The ‘RIDEforHOPE’ fundraiser held on Thursday raised roughly $11,000 for the Cancer Coalition of South Georgia, surpassing its $10,000 goal, officials with the coalition said Tuesday.
More than 50 cyclists participated in the Spinning event at Tony’s Fitness Group on North Westover Boulevard. Riders were able to dedicate their journey in honor or memory of a loved one touched by cancer as they rode in Josh Taylor’s “Fighter Pilot: The Ride.”
The first Spinning fundraiser, conducted in October, raised $7,809 for the Cancer Coalition. The majority of the money raised from the most recent event is slated to go toward screenings and cancer care grants.
“We are amazed at the community’s support for the ride, which reminds us of how many individuals in this area are affected by cancer,” said Cancer Coalition CEO Diane Fletcher in a news release. “We are honored to have hosted internationally-recognized instructors for both our 2012 and 2013 rides. With such strong interest from participants and sponsors, we plan to continue holding rides to raise awareness about the Cancer Coalition’s work while raising funds to help us keep fighting cancer right here.”
