Kiwanis prepares for art exhibit

ALBANY, Ga. -- The Kiwanis Club of Dougherty County has announced the schedule for awards and displays in its 2013 Student Art Competition & Exhibit.

An awards ceremony and a reception are slated for Sunday from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. at Avalon United Methodist Church, 3018 Gillionville Road. The awards announcements will start at 2:30 p.m.

Beginning April 8, prize-winning elementary art will go on display in the Sears wing of the Albany Mall. The mall will host a reception on April 19 for students, teachers and parents from 4 p.m.-5:30 p.m.

On April 21, elementary-level art will come down, and middle and high school award winners will be hung for display, remaining on exhibit until May 5.

The art committee chair will take the top eight artworks April 27 to vie in statewide competition in the Kiwanis Georgia District art contest at the Carrollton Cultural Art Center.

Student art contest events series will conclude May 6, with the annual awards luncheon for winners and their art teachers, held in conjunction with the weekly Kiwanis Club of Dougherty County meeting at the Hilton Garden Inn from noon-1:45 p.m.

This year's competition marks the 33rd consecutive year that the Kiwanis Club of Dougherty has sponsored the art contest for students in Dougherty and Lee counties.
