ALBANY, Ga. -- The prep work is nearly complete for Friday's "Link Up" concerts hosted by the Albany Symphony Orchestra and the famed Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute.
The symphony's Link Up concerts will play host to area school children in two morning concerts Friday and then one concert Friday night that will be open to the public at the Albany Municipal Auditorium.
The public concert will start at 7:30 with an instrument petting zoo beginning at 6:30, symphony officials say. The cost for tickets range from $5 and $10 depending upon seat choice and are available at albanysymphony.org
"This is a great opportunity for us to expose children to something that may stick with them for life," Symphony Director Claire Fox Hillard said. "It's an educational program in the sense that students will learn about the various instruments and will even play along."
During the student concerts, children will use knowledge gained throughout the year to sing, hum, and play along with the orchestra.
"The concert's overall theme is 'the Orchestra Rocks' and will focus in on the importance of rhythm and look at the rhythms involved in a variety of different types of musical genres," Hillard said.
The Albany Symphony Orchestra is one of 40 organizations from across the United States chosen for this program.
