BRUNSWICK -- Robert "Bob" Wainright, 84, of Albany, GA died peacefully at Morningside Assisted Living Center in Albany on Friday, March 08, 2013. A graveside service will be conducted at Christ Episcopal Church Frederica at 4:30 PM on March 22, 2013, by Father Stephen McWhorter. Family and close friends will gather at a local restaurant afterwards to share a meal and celebrate Bob's life.
Bob was born in Toledo, OH, where his parents, Everett Marshall Wainright, and Kathleen Knox Wainright, briefly resided at the time of his birth on March 26,1928. They soon returned to their former hometown of Brunswick, where Bob (then known as "Bobby") spent the rest of his childhood. He attended Sidney Lanier Elementary School, Prep Junior High and Glynn Academy, graduating from the latter in 1946.
He served in the U.S. Air Force in the far east during the late 1940s. He attended the University of Georgia, while a student he married Mary Alice Steuart of Atlanta, GA on March 18, 1951. After graduation, Bob and Mary lived in Brunswick. He then went to work for the Satilla Wood Company for a number of years and resided in Waycross with Mary and their children. In 1963, he joined Brunswick Pulp & Paper Co. as a District Manager in Cochran for one year and then in Dublin, GA. In 1973, he became a sawmill superintendent for the Davis Lumber Co. in Albany, GA. He retired from the forest-products industry in 1987.
Bob is survived by his three children, Gary Wainright (Rebecca) and Jeff Wainright both of St. Simons Island and Amy Wainright Warren (Tommy) of Leesburg, GA,. Bob is also survived by six grandchildren Reeve Wainright, Bobby Wainright, Jeffery "Steuart" Wainright, Jr., Hannah Wainright, Steuart Warren and Taylor Warren.
Bob has four siblings, P. Marshall Wainright, deceased, Charles K Wainright, deceased, Marion J. Wainright, of Folkston, GA, and Rosemary Wainright Hurst, of Waycross, GA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, Albany Community Hospice or another charity of the contributor's choice.
