Obamacare, minimum wage complaints overblown

Letter to the editor

So, many companies are complaining about Obamacare and a rise in the minimum wage. Businesses keep repeating that they are going to close their business if and when Obama care comes in. I have heard the same negative comments for over 50 years.

If they did, you could not buy anything and unemployment would be over 50 percent. If you walked into a fast food restaurant, you would find a manager and maybe one hired helper. They would take your order and fax it to China or some other cheap labor country and sent to you at the other end of counter.

What is the Chamber of Commerce (CoC) for? Does the CoC lobby with the politicians for greater favor for businesses? Doesn’t the CoC collect its “union dues,” then take the money and hire legal consultant(s) who work 24/7 to create policies to circumvent the law?

ignorance is bliss they say.

You should study your history. What groups have the highest unemployment rate? Have had for the last 50 years. Until 1930, both Blacks and whites had about the same unemployment rate. In fact, In 1930, whites had a higher unemployment rate. Then came the Davis–Bacon Act of 1931, setting the first minimum wage. The rest is the history you never learned.

When you can go to prison and receive food , shelter, and health care , it does not leave much incentive to get a job at minimum wage with no benefits. Even if it is the right thing to do. But nobody seems interested in doing the right thing. If businesses want to take their money and run , let em. Somebody else will take their place sooner or later.

Raise minimum wage = lower job opportunities = higher unemployment rate or Raise minimum wage = higher costs to products so either way you will still be broke.

Better wages = more people paying taxes instead of on the dole , more cash on hand to spend on domestic products. If we keep outsourcing jobs to China and borrowing money from them, they will own US lock stock and barrel . If they don't already.

The government artificially setting a minimum wage is one of the reasons jobs are being outsourced to other countries in the first place.

VSU has it right, is using his God-given brains. Raise wages and give it a few weeks and prices must be raised to maintain profits and everybody is right back where they started. It's called "inflation" ever heard of it?

What people don't seem to realize, a minimum wage job is not designed for a person to make a living, but more or less an entry level job for young people to gain work experience and earn a little money while they are going to school or college to learn a trade to get a job to get better pay. It's called working your way up the ladder. The problem is people today don't want to work their way to the top, they want to start at the top. Some just graduate from high school and expect to be CEO of a large corporation the first day. The democrats only want to raise the minimum wage to keep getting the votes, and when the companies start raising prices or stop hiring people or lay people off, they will blame the republicans for it like they always do. I don't make the best pay in the world but I get a decent pay and all I have is a high school diploma. If I were to apply for my job today I would not qualify. I started at 2 hours a day part time 7 days a week, and through dedication, hard work and hands on experience I am at a higher position getting all health, life, dental insurance and 401k among other things. People can do it if they try, but they don't want to. They want to start at the top or otherwise they won't take the job or wont stay there very long.

The ladder is full, there is no room to climb, and if you look at the top you see that it is too crowded up there already. Young people are graduating from college with no where to go. Those that go out and find a job end up on govt assistance because of low wages. Corporate America would rather spend their money to bribe our politicians , Democrats and Republicans. If they take one dime from a special interest thet are guilty (Deut. 16:19). So what do we do ? Keep sending our money to China and other countries overseas or invest in hard working Americans ? I am not talking about govt. investment. I am talking about American consumers and industries.
