ALBANY, Ga. -- 1st Franklin Financial is now among the monetary supporters of the Lily Pad Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Center, donating $40,000 to the organization at its West Second Avenue office on Tuesday.

Cassandra Wright, executive director of the Lily Pad SANE Center, said representatives from the institution came to the center directly about the idea of making a donation and took a tour of the facility.

"We are very pleased and overwhelmed. There is a great need," she said. "We want everyone to know how much we appreciate it.

"When they told us (of the pending donation), we were doing backflips in the office."

The Lily Pad functions as an investigative resource, as well as a safe haven, for adult and child victims of physical, sexual and/or mental abuse in the region.

The money donated Tuesday, Wright said, will go toward providing clothing, food, toiletries and toys for abuse victims utilizing the nonprofit's services.

"This is something we don't have to sell (to get donations)," she said. "We just give the facts."

LaGrange College, Verizon Wireless and Sam's Club are among the other organizations to donate to the Lily Pad in recent months.

1st Franklin Financial, headquartered in Toccoa, operates through 270 branch loan offices throughout the South. The company offers clients a number of loan types including starter loans, personal loans and debt consolidation loans.

"We work for an organization that wants us to get out into the community and give back," said Marc Thomas, vice president of First Franklin. "Not only do we give money, but we try to volunteer (at community organizations).

"We are thankful that you (the Lily Pad) are here and for what you do."

In Albany, the company has branches located on Dawson Road and Grand Island Drive. There are also offices located in cities throughout the surrounding area including Dawson, Sylvester, Americus, Colquitt, Cordele and Tifton.

A man who abuses a woman or a child should face that village millstone Jesus talks about. Congratulations Lily Pad! I wish we didn't need you, but that is not reality.
