ALBANY, Ga. — Albany-Dougherty Drug Unit officials say that 11 of 18 stores offered to sell alcohol to minors in an undercover compliance check.
The details of the bust will be made public at a 2:30 press conference today at the ADDU headquarters.
Documents obtained by the Herald and its media partner, WFXL Fox-31 TV Wednesday morning show that 61 percent of stores investigated sold to underage buyers.
The stores that the ADDU says sold alcohol to minors include:
- Stop N Shop on the 700 block of Cordele Road.
- Big E's Country Store on the 2100 block of Cordele Road.
- Quickmart on the 3300 block of Sylvester Road.
- Stop N Shop on the 2600 block of Sylvester Road.
- Neighborhood Grocery on the 700 block of Johnson Road.
- Radium Springs Food Mart on the 2500 block of Sylvester Road.
- Stop and Shop on the 2200 block of Liberty Expressway
- Grab N Go on the 5400 block of Newton Road
- Stop Shop on the 1400 block of West Oakridge Drive.
- Devi's on the 1400 block of Palmyra Road.
- Quickway on the 800 block of North Jefferson Street.

Just like ADDU to bypass the west side stores first. This their regular MO: check the east side, put it the newspaper and give the West side a warning and the time to clean up their acts. Typical!
The NW underage drinkers can stop on Westover Rd are Old Dawson rd and get the same deal, as usual. Better yet, they can ride to Lee County to get the liquor and the Meth.

Bottom line is if the stores were not guilty of selling to minors they would have been cleared and had nothing to worry about. Don't hate the ADDU for doing their job, hate the stores who were guilty of selling to minors.

Never, ever, ever a comment finding fault with the factual results of a legal action like this when it involves a Certain Demographic......only allegations of racist motivations of the Enforcement branch involved which not only can you not see or prove, but which also includes a majority of the same Demographic who are trying their best to enforce the laws.

Right on Sister, to people like Diddly Dee, it's always the fault of the police that the stores did wrong, no mention that the store was guilty for selling to minors. People are more concerned about crying racism than catching people in doing wrong. Don't do wrong in the first place and you don't need to worry about getting caught.

And besides if Diddly Dee had looked at the list He/She/It would have seen Newton Road, North Jefferson, Palmyra Road and west Oakridge. Correct me if I am wrong, but last time I checked these streets were not in East Albany, and like you say, perhaps the remaining 7 stores that passed were in NW Albany. Like I told Diddly Dee, don't hate the ADDU for doing their job, hate the stores for breaking the law.

Who is MEKIA? I don't see any posts written by MEKIA. My posts were not racially motivated, I don't even know who the store owners are, I don't keep track of who owns what. There are white people that live in East Albany, I didn't even mention race. I just mentioned stores in East Albany. To me that makes you out to be the true racist, because you just assume I was refering to black people. So are you saying all the East side stores are owned by non whites? Some of the stores like Woodalls on the west side have already been caught and most likely they nipped it in the bud. Many of the west side stores have been checked many times in the past, so do not discount them. Some of these stores have not been on the list before. They know it is against the law like gambling machines, but they do it anyway. The odds are in their favor, unless they close them down most will continue to sell to them

What you don't see, and will not see, are the stores who were checked and passed. Good news never makes a newspaper or TV article. I would feel better seeing the name of a store that was checked and passed and I would frequent that store more often than those who got caught. Maybe adding a list of store which were checked and passed would be nice.

The news reported that there were complaints about alcohol being sold to minors, so therefore they sent a minor in to buy alcohol and they did not check his id. That one store owner said on TV that he didn't remember selling to a minor. Of course he didn't! He said it wasn't fair that they picked on him on his small struggling business. I guess you must be struggling if you are selling to minors. Get every dollar you can get legal or illegal. If you had followed the law, you would have had nothing to worry about. You are just mad because you got caught.

Not too long ago the clerks at the Neighborhood Grocery, 700 Johnson Road, in East Albany, were selling marijuana to anybody with the cash to buy it. Big story on the TV and in the Herald. Somebody should follow up on this. What is it these people don’t understand about our laws concerning alcohol and marijuana?
