ALBANY, Ga. — The Albany Police Department is now accepting applications for a basic firearms safety course that will be conducted Saturday. The class will begin at 8 a.m. in the Law Enforcement Center's Community Room.
The eight-hour class, which is open to citizens 21 years of age and older, will cover basic handgun safety, legal issues and handling skills needed to deploy a handgun for self-defense.
Applicants will have to sign a release and authorize the Albany Police Department to conduct a background check to obtain any information relating to a criminal history record for the purpose of determining eligibility for the course.
