Farm Bureau to host Albany blood drive

ALBANY, Ga. — Dougherty County Farm Bureau will host a blood drive on April 4 at the bureau's office at 315 Eva St. in Albany. The drive will begin at 11 a.m. and continue until 3 p.m.

Red Cross officials say about 38 percent of the population is eligible to donate blood; however, only 3 percent actually does. To encourage new donors, the Red Cross has a promotion to encourage blood and platelet donation called "Just 3 percent do, will you?"

The Red Cross Southern Blood Services provides blood to patients in more than 120 hospitals. About 1,200 people need to give blood or platelets each weekday to meet hospital demands.

How have you sweetened that pot? Those stale cookies are not enough. I use to give blood all the time, but no more. It is too much trouble and my veins are shot. Time for others to give.
