SYLVESTER — Worth County’s Denzel Gowdy pitched a six-inning no-hitter against the Albany Indians, who fell to 1-2 in Region 1-AAAA and 3-4 overall after the 10-0 Rams win.
Gowdy, a right-handed sophomore, struck out six, walked two and improved to 2-0 for the season. He also drove in a run for the Rams, who improved to 3-0 in the Region 1-AAAA.
Austin Dorough had a pinch-hit three-run double and Tyler Moore drove in two runs for Worth, which is 5-7 overall.
Worth is at home on Monday against Berrien, while Albany High’s next game is against Dougherty in a city rivalry game at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Paul Eames.
DEERFIELD BASEBALL 9, TIFTAREA 3: Westin King went the distance giving up six hits while striking out seven to pick up his first win of the season, and Davis Hines went 3-for-3 and drove in two runs for the Knights. Kh’Ron McClain went 2-for-4, scored a run and drove in a run, and Coleman Butler had an RBI triple for DWS, which improved to 5-4 and 1-1 in GISA Region 3-AAA.
The Knights play at Terrell Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
WESTOVER SOCCER SWEEPS CRISP COUNTY: The Westover Patriots improved to 6-4-1 with an impressive 3-1 victory against Crisp County on Friday. Darrell Roberts scored twice, and Danny Laska scored a goal for WHS.
The Westover Lady patriots beat Tift, 4-1, to improve to 13-2 overall this season. Katie Brown, Amie Loudermilk, Jasmine Young and Nelliena Young all scored for Westover.
Westover plays Dougherty at home at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
SHERWOOD SOCCER SWEEPS: The SCA girls beat Calvary, 6-0 to improve to 11-2-1
Katelyn Cuff and Kylee Harrod scored two goals each and Jordyn Paramore and Destiny Allen scored for SCA. Hannah Thompson recorded the shutout.
The SCA boys beat Calvary, 2-1, as T.J. Clay and Coleman Bailey scored for the Eagles, who are now 8-2.
SCA plays at Valwood on Tuesday.
LEE COUNTY SOCCER SPLITS WITH NORTHSIDE COLUMBUS: The Lady Trojans beat Northside Columbus, 3-2, and the boys fell, 2-1, in overtime on Friday.
Carsen Taylor (2 goals) and Josie Nix scored for the Lee girls, who are now 5-4 overall and 3-1 in Region 1-AAAAA. Samarthia Bhatnagar scored the lone goal for the Trojans. Lee plays at Colquitt County on Wednesday.
Darton baseball gets revenge on West Georgia Tech
ALBANY — The Darton baseball team bounced back after seeing its 15-game winning streak snapped earlier this week and beat the team that ended the streak on Friday, sweeping West Georgia Tech with a a couple of walkoff victories.
Cody Wofford walked with the bases loaded in the opener to lift Darton to a 6-5 win, scoring Trey Haygood after the West Georgia Tech pitcher walked the bases loaded on 16 balls and three strikes.
Chris Long picked up the win in relief, allowing one hit while striking out two in 1 2/3 innings. Brandon Sharpe went 2-for-3, scored a run and drove in a run and Nate Ferrell scored twice.
In the nightcap, Darton blew the lead in the top of the seventh and then took home the win with a walkoff single from Ferrell.
Andrew Crumbley came into the game in the top of the seventh and failed to hold a 4-2 lead as West Georgia Tech scored twice and tied the score, 4-4, on a Ventavis Jerger error, but Darton came right back.
Riliani Familia was hit by a pitch, and Wofford's sacrifice bunt moved him to second. Wofford walked and Ferrell came through with the clutch single to win the game.
Darton is now 23-5 and 10-1 in the conference. It plays West Georgia Tech today at 1 p.m. to wrap up the three-game series.
