LOCAL PREP/COLLEGE ROUNDUP: Deerfield baseball edges Terrell Academy

ALBANY — Kh’Ron McClain, Davis Hines and Weston King each had two hits to lead Deerfield to a 7-5 win Monday against Terrell Academy.

The Knights (6-4) were led at the plate by King, who was 2-for-4 with two RBI, while McClain (2-for-5), Hines (2-for-2, RBI) and Justin Glover (1-for-4, RBI, 2B) helped lift DWS past the Eagles.

Jay Wildrip was 2-for-2 to lead the Eagles.

DWS plays again Thursday at Southland.

LEE COUNTY NO HIT: Colquit County pitcher Clayton Brown tossed a no-hitter on Monday to down the Lee County Trojans, 8-0.

The Trojans got just two runners on base (a walk and an error) and fell to 2-9 overall.

Lee’s T.J. Roberts was the losing pitcher after throwing two innings and giving up five runs.

The Trojans play again Friday at home in a doubleheader against Bainbridge.

DWS TENNIS SWEEPS: The Deerfield tennis teams cruised past a pair of short-handed Calvary Christian squads on Monday.

The Knights won, 3-0, with victories from Nasser Risvi (No. 1 singles), Tyler Lowe (No. 2 singles) and Pete Langstaff and Will Calhoun (No. 1 doubles).

The Lady Knights won, 2-0, with victories from Joyner Tyson (No. 1 singles) and Caroline Holley (No. 2 singles).

The DWS squads, which are both 13-0, play again Thursday at Brookwood.

GSW tied for 2nd at Bearcat Golf Classic

VALDOSTA — The 24th-ranked Georgia Southwestern men’s golf team shot a two-round 596 (20-over) on Monday at the Bobcat Golf Classic to finish tied for second place out of 18 teams heading into today’s third and final round.

J.P. Griffin and Andrew Ritchot led GSW as the duo finished the first two rounds with identical scores of 4-over to tie for seventh in the overall individual standings.

Another pair of Hurricanes finished with identical scores as former Lee County star Nate Gahman and Matthew Whitaker shot rounds of 75 to finish at 6-over, which is tied for 16th in the overall standings.

The Hurricanes sit tied with Mount Olive College as the two schools currently trail tournament leader Belmont Abbey College by 14 strokes.
