DOUGLAS -- Jean Claire Griffin, age 87, of Albany, GA passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2013, at Summers Landing in Douglas following a brief illness. She is survived by her sister, Martha G. Evans, of Douglas, GA, her Boston Terrier, Kate, nieces Carol Evans Maley, of Douglas, GA, and Ann Lovett, of Atlanta, GA, five nephews, Rowan Evans, of Douglas, GA, Ralph Evans, of Douglas, GA, Billy Lovett, of Atlanta, GA, Herschel Lovett, of Dublin, GA, and Griffin Lovett, of Dublin, GA, as well as many great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister Janelle Lovett of Dublin, GA and her long-time best friend, Joan Champion of Albany, GA.
Jean Claire was born in Douglas, GA, on October 12, 1925, to the late Ralph Waldo Griffin and Mamie Baird Griffin. She graduated from Converse College in Spartanburg, SC with a degree in Biology and completed her medical training at Grady Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Jean Claire had a long career in the medical profession with Phoebe Putney Hospital and then with the medical practice of Hollis, Johnson, Guillebeau in Albany, GA. She was an avid golfer and animal lover. A graveside service was held on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Douglas City Cemetery with Father Curtis Mears officiating. Sims Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
