No arrests in downtown arson case

ALBANY, Ga. — Investigation into Tuesday’s suspected arson fires of a downtown apartment complex are continuing, according to James Carswell, Albany Fire Department chief. After a series of fires forced evacuation of the building, residents of Albany Heights on Pine Avenue spent the night at the Civic Center.

“Our arson investigator, Sam Harris, has been looking further into it,” Carswell said. “We’re still interviewing witnesses, residents and ‘persons of interest,’ but we don’t have anything solid to announce as yet.”

Carswell said Fire Department officials are also reviewing video from special downtown cameras which were aimed at the complex.

“We’re hoping we can get an identification from that,” Carswell said. Albany Police Department spokeswoman, Phyllis Banks, said the APD as not yet developed solid leads or suspects.
