ALBANY, Ga. -- "Cracker Lake," a play about former state championship basketball players and their enduring friendship, will be presented at 7 p.m. Friday at the Main Street Theatre in downtown Dawson.

The production will be presented by Better Hometown Task Force, which operates and promotes the downtown theater. Tickets are $12 and may be obtained by calling Rhonda Gordon at (229) 995-5329. Tickets also will be available at the door.

Gordon is economic development director for the city of Dawson and theater manager for the Main Street Theatre and Cultural Arts Center.

Cast members include Julie Landrum, Jacqueline Sutton, Darlene Cowart, Jessi Robison, Brenda Mattox, Courtney Grebel, Takeia Peterson, Tiffany Brown, Jo Deese, Beth LeVert and Gordon.

Gordon says the production is a touching comedy about friendships that last forever. She noted that the women characters were three-time state basketball champs in high school who vowed to meet every few years for a girls' weekend.

The play spotlights one particular gathering at Cracker Lake.

"This year it is up to 'Vic,' a busy lawyer, to plan the weekend," Gordon says. "Of course, she gets sidetracked and forgets to make the reservations at a fabulous five-star resort.

"She is left scrambling at the last minute to find a location. She remembers hearing her great-grandmother talk about her beautiful lakeside villa located in Florida and decides to call her to inquire if she can use it for the weekend. Her great-grandmother agrees and Vic plans to use the villa, sight unseen."

When Vic arrives, she discovers it's a retirement community with trailers lined up around a small pond.

"As the girls arrive, they begin to focus less on their surroundings and more on each other," Gordon said. "They have a wonderful time reminiscing about their high school days and catching up with each other."

The theater is located at 152 N. Main St. in downtown Dawson.
