TIFTON, Ga. — Jordan M. McCalister, 19, has been charged with felony murder in the April 26 shooting death of Christopher Rapheal Sears, 21, according to officials of the Tift County Sheriff’s Office.
The charge of murder stems from McCalister’s alleged conspiracy with Sears to commit a crime, which resulted in Sears’ death, sheriff’s office public information officer David Haire said. Additionally, McCalister has been charged with aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit a crime, tampering with evidence and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. She remains in the Tift County Jail, Haire said.
According to earlier reports, McCalister suffered a gunshot wound to one arm during the shooting, which occurred on Short Street in Tift County. Haire said that while further arrests are expected in the case, details of the shooting are not yet released.
The Sylvester field office of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Tift County Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate the shooting, Haire said. Additionally, a nearby incident on South Central Avenue involving businesses and homes struck by gunfire is also under investigation.
“For a while we thought the two incidents were connected,” Haire said. “It’s since been determined that is not the case.”
