Audrey Pike, the new chief compliance officer for Phoebe Putney Health System, was introduced to the hospital’s board of directors Wednesday. Prior to her current role, Pike had been serving as associate counsel and Institutional Review Board administrator for the health system.
ALBANY, Ga. -- Audrey Pike has been named chief compliance officer for the Phoebe Putney Health System, officials announced.
Pike was formally introduced to the Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital board on Wednesday by Tommy Chambless, general counsel for the health system.
The promotion, which became effective two weeks ago, comes as a split takes place between the internal audit and compliance departments at the hospital as a way, officials say, to better meet the needs of employees and consumers of the growing organization.
Pike, a mother of two children, is a graduate of the University of Florida, where she earned her bachelor's degree in English. She then obtained her doctorate in law from Florida State University College of Law. Prior to joining Phoebe in June 2011, she was an associate general counsel for the University of Central Florida College of Medicine in Orlando.
She obtained her certification in health care compliance in 2012, a biography provided by the hospital says.
"I'm responsible now for overseeing the corporate compliance program," Pike said of her new role. "(The program) exists to serve employees and ensure they comply (with regulations and codes of conduct).
"It gives a guidebook to make sure employees make the right choices."
When asked about changes she planned to make in the compliance department through her new position, Pike said the department is currently in an assessment phase.
"We are always in a state of self-evaluation," she said.
Until two weeks ago, Pike had been the associate counsel and Institutional Review Board administrator for Phoebe Putney Health System. She has practiced law for 11 years, the past nine of which have been dedicated to health care compliance law. She will retain responsibility for the IRB at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, officials at Phoebe say.
Following Pike's introduction, Kerry Loudermilk, chief financial officer at the hospital, gave a financial report at the board's Wednesday meeting that noted admissions for Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital and the Phoebe North Campus are now ahead of last year, while the length of stay was trending downward.
"With (the main campus) and Phoebe North, we had 380 people in beds (the other day)," Loudermilk said. "At the North campus we were almost at capacity last week, so we have been very busy."
After a closed session, the hospital board was presented with the most recent credentials report, which gives an overview of medical staff applicants, resignations and retirements as well as new privilege requests from Phoebe's professional affairs committee. The report was approved by the full board before the meeting adjourned.
