'Run for the Roses' to benefit Council on Aging

ALBANY, Ga. -- The second annual Juleps, Jockeys & Jazz, a Kentucky Derby event benefiting the SOWEGA Council on Aging, is planned from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. Saturday at Stonebridge Golf and Country Club.

The Kentucky Derby-themed fundraising event is a unique way to enjoy all of the thrills of the Kentucky Derby while benefiting seniors and our community, according to Izzie Sadler, development director for the Council on Aging

Tickets, which are still available for the event, are $60 per person and are available at www.sowegacoa.org, by calling (229) 432-1124 or at the door on the day of the event.

Each guest will receive a complimentary memory photo. The event will also feature a hat parade, silent auction, a live showing of the Derby race, betting games and a cash bar. Guests are encouraged to wear their “Derby” attire.

The SOWEGA Council on Aging provides programs and services for individuals ages 60-plus in 14 Southwest Georgia counties. Programs and services include Meals on Wheels, Ramp Crew, GeorgiaCares, Rural Senior Wellness, 15 senior centers, RSVP program, ADRC, Family Caregiver, Community Cares Services, Emergency Response, homemaker, advocacy, elder abuse prevention, ombudsman, elder legal assistance, health fairs, Title V employment, and more.

The council’s service area includes Baker, Calhoun, Colquitt, Decatur, Dougherty, Early, Grady, Lee, Miller, Mitchell, Seminole, Terrell, Thomas and Worth counties.
