DAWSON — What happened Wednesday was years in the making.

“We’re finally region champs,” Terrell Academy baseball coach Ashley Walker said. “It feels good.”

The Eagles (13-5, 7-1 in GISA Region 3-AA) have been state champs before, but they’d never won their own region outright before Wednesday.

That’s when the Eagles beat rival Westwood, 10-6, to clinch the school’s first crown.

“We shared it once in 2009 when we were state runner-up, but we’d never won it outright,” Walker said. “This is the first one we have all to ourselves.”

Josh Brunswick made sure of that.

The hard-throwing Eagles starter pitched a complete game, striking out six and allowing seven hits. Logan Duckworth went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the win, while Clint Smith was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, Caleb Waters notched a 3-for-4 day with three RBI — including his third homer of the year — and Dalton Dedge was 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Terrell closes the regular season this coming week and will open the state playoffs in two weeks as the No. 1 seed from Region 3.

Your title is wrong. I played on 2 region championship teams in the 90s and my dad played on 2 in the 70s. I'm pretty sure they won it in 01 or 02 also if not both.
