ATHENS — Former Deerfield star and Albany Herald Player of the Year T.J. Mitchell was 2-over after the first round of the Web.Com Tour’s Stadion Classic, which is played in Mitchell’s adopted hometown of Athens, where he’s a senior on the UGA men’s golf team.

By virtue of finishing as the top-ranked golfer for the Bulldogs at the end of the season, Mitchell earned an automatic exemption into the Web.com Tour event, which Mitchell is playing in as an amateur, marking his first career professional tournament.

Mitchell fired a an even-par on the front nine, then a 2-over on the back. He parred every hole on the first nine holes, then mixed in four bogeys and two birdies after the turn.
