RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond Raiders kicker T.C. Stephens nailed a 25-yard field goal with seven seconds left late Saturday, sending the Albany Panthers home with their third straight loss.
After scoring the go-ahead touchdown with 1:10 left to take a 49-48 lead, the Panthers watched as Stephens hit his only FG of the day to give the Raiders a 51-49 victory.
Albany (3-3) led 43-20 with 1:10 left in the third quarter, but Richmond (5-2) scored four unanswered TDs to claim the lead with four minutes left.
Albany quarterback Cecil Lester was 27-for-43 for 298 yards and threw six touchdowns and one interception.
Johnny Lester was the Panthers’ leading receiver, catching 11 passes for 110 yards and two TDs.
Antwon Cutts (9 catches, 117 yards), John Harris (5 catches, 61 yards), Derrick Wimbush (1 catch, 6 yards) and Aaron Wheeler (1 catch, 4 yards) all caught one TD for the Panthers.
Stoney Woodson led Albany on the defensive end with seven tackles, while Torez Jones and Damian Daniels each had one interception, and David Ryninski had the game’s only sack.
After playing three straight on the road and not having a game in the Civic Center since March 23, the Panthers finally return home Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. matchup with Louisiana.
Richmond is now tied atop the PIFL standings with Alabama, while the Panthers, the two-time league champions, are in a tie for third.
