CAIRO -- Services for Nellie Joyce Harrell Butler, 82, of Cairo, GA, will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, May 10, 2013, at Pine Level Baptist Church, Cairo, GA. Rev. Jim Weaver will officiate with interment to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mrs. Butler passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at her home in Cairo, GA.
Mrs. Butler was born on September 29, 1930, in Cairo, GA, to the late Oscar Ozzro Harrell and Hattie Miller Harrell. On June 5, 1954, she married Fred McDaniel Butler, who survives. She was a Staff Member of Roddenbery Memorial Library in Cairo, GA in the 1940's and 1950's. She served with the Library System of Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, AL, Main Base and Hospital Libraries. She also worked with the General Telephone System of West Texas located in San Angelo, TX. She gave up her vocation to become a full-time wife and mother traveling throughout much of the world as a military dependent. She was a member and Sunday School Teacher of Pine Level Baptist Church.
Survivors include: her husband of 59 years, Fred McDaniel Butler of Cairo, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and John Tillis of Williamsburg, VA; son Michael David Butler of Cairo, GA; grandchildren Shelby Elaine Tillis and Luke Aaron Tillis, both of Williamsburg, VA; Sara Michelle Butler and Hailey Marie Butler, both of Cairo, GA; brother, Audrey Harrell of Cairo, GA; sister Grace Ponder of Thomasville, GA; half-brother, J. D. Harrell of Cairo, GA; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Butler was preceded in death by: her parents, Ozzro and Hattie Harrell; and a brother, Ed Harrell.
