Squawk of the day - May 9, 2013

"I agree with the squawker who suggested opening up a dining facility in the old Ordinary Coyote building. With all the medical establishments springing up in that area I bet it would be a huge success."

Phoebe will turn it into something to produce more revenue than a restaurant. Why sell soup and salad when you can sell overpriced medical care? Duh.

And not have to pay no taxes!? It's a great gig if you can get it!

Yeah, you could count on the food to be over-priced. A meal in the cafeteria downtown ain't cheap! Might work if it were independent of Phoebe! Or, would be a great location for a Subway - and one could "eat fresh."

I have heard that the building cost mega bucks to build and they want a fortune for rent. Hence no one can make it. Peck Carlton had it built for his grandchild and he ran the building costs up. Who owns it now is anyones guess, but the other poster is right, another doctor on Gold Dust Row is probably destined for that property. You have a lot more places to eat than anywhere else in Albany close by. But I agree, now it is a tax paying entity. May not be much longer. Albany will be a town of non-profits, MCSS and welfare homes. Wonder how the future will play out. Rather bleak.

PP bought that place a good while back it's been at least a year. I drew the structural drawings for the building YW&M were the architects. It was an expensive place to build with the double arched bar joists & rolled beams. I heard it costs around $2,000 each to get the beams rolled & arched. If I remember correctly it had a radius of around 110 feet.

Phoebe already owns it. Has for a while.

Just what would you all do for in hospital care if Phoebe closed it's doors and all you had was the other facility that will only accept Insurance or cash. Does not take indigent, medicare or medicaid patients.
Work in any healthcare facility and see why cost are as you all say: ain't cheap! I can remember a time when Phoebe was just like the privately ownd hospitals, they kicked you out even if you were on your death bed, I know, my mother was one that was thrown out as her insurance did not pay the total amt Know the facts people

Which other facility do you mean that won't take Medicare? I don't know of a hospital within a 50-100 mile radius of where I live that won't take Medicare....or my military Tricare 4 Life.

0

imapvine 11 months, 1 week ago

That's not true at all. No one is "kicked" out of Phoebe because of inability to pay. If your mother was still in the hospital her insurance hadn't even been filed yet so how could she be thrown out???? Know your facts!!!!

0

imapvine 11 months, 1 week ago

fcarroll-- your mother couldn't have been thrown out of the hospital because her insurance didn't pay. If she was in the hospital her insurance hadn't even been filed yet. No one has ever been "thrown" out of Phoebe. KNOW YOUR FACTS!!!!!

I thought Phoebe already had plans for that building as some sort of meeting facility. fcarroll, the main problem I have with Medicaid is that coverage is much more extensive than Medicare. I doubt if you could buy private health insurance that has the coverage of Medicaid for less than 2000 to 2500 per month. It is almost as good as what congress gave themselves.

1

FryarTuk 11 months, 1 week ago

That's pretty much my understanding also.

imapvine 11 months, 1 week ago

Medicaid reimbursement is next to nothing on hospital bills and the hospital has to eat what it doesn't pay. That's why private health ins costs so much.

Worked for the other medical facility for 10 years - worked in the business office with the insurance information - and know that they did and do accept Medicare and Medicaid. And by law in the state of Georgia if you are a for profit hospital you still have to provide indigent care. Look at the finical statements that the other medical facility has to give to the state. The other medical facility does not get reimbursed by anyone - it is an expense of doing business in the state. Phoebe provides indigent care and then gets reimbursed by the Phoebe foundation for that indigent care as well as the state and county reimbusements. I know that the county has been getting a break for Phoebe on the indigent reimbusements in the past couple of years - but everytime you give to the Phoebe foundation you are reimbusing Phoebe for the indigent care cost. So now who is giving free care????

I know someone that worked a party for some of the Phoebe nurses. I can't remember which dept. but I think it was the ICU nurses. She said that was the wildest bunch she ever bartended for.

0

RedEric 11 months, 1 week ago

They have a LOT of stress. Sounds like a darned good way to relieve it.

agirl_25 11 months, 1 week ago

I guess it depends on what the poster means by wildest bunch as our definition of a wild bunch may be different than others.

As of checking the Dougherty County Tax Records online today May 09: The former "Ordinary Coyote" building is owned by "Phoebe Putney Health Systems Inc.". This is not Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital as/in itself. The PPHS was set up to purchase and hold properties which could/may be used by PPMH as needed. @ "imapvine": Yes, you can be physically taken to Phoebe's front door on a gurney and "thrown out" of PPMH while an admitted patient and on the same day as surgery. Ask me how I know.

dingleberry 11 months, 1 week ago

PP Health Systems is the management part of the Phoebe conglomerate, basically everything except the hospital itself.

Mission Statement TO DEVELOP AND OPERATE A FINANCIALLY VIABLE FAMILY OF RELATED HEATLH CARE ORGANIZATIONS WHICH COLLECTIVELY SEEK TO ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF SOUTHWEST GEORGIANS

OK Thurman, I am asking....How do you know?

0

Amazed2 11 months, 1 week ago

Yes the Carlton's and the Yarborough boy spent lots and lots of money to build it. Problem was they did not know how to run it. They unecesarily spent excessive money way above what made business sense. So much that the grandson could never turn a profit. The boy did OK when he had the Rocket joint but apparently thought he was a great and famous chef. Forgot he is a South Georgia Boy living in South Georgia. Went broke with grandpa and his fathers money in about a year. Initially for months after opening he was so bold he would not even put a sign up with the name. But as grandpa money went away he decided hey just maybe I should put a sign out and advertise.
