Gladys Lillian Griner Warren

SYLVESTER -- Gladys Lillian Griner Warren, age 101, of Sylvester, GA, died peacefully on May 8, 2013, at the Unihealth Magnolia Manor South Nursing Home in Moultrie, GA. Mrs. Warren had been struggling with congestive heart failure for the past year.

She was born to the late Seaborn B. and Maude Lillian Culbreth Griner October 31, 1911. Gladys spent her younger years living in Bridgeboro. There she shared time with her older brothers, Oscar, James and Theo.

Later in her life, the family moved on to a property just off County Line Road in Worth County. Her father ran a lumber mill, her mother was a housewife. Gladys was her father's best friend. He taught her to drive at the age of twelve. Gladys married the late James Wynton Warren on June 6, 1931. Wynton, at the time was working with his father in the Clerk's office in Sylvester. A few years later, he was elected as Clerk of Court in Worth County. At that point Gladys and Wynton entered the political world. In 1954, the Warren family moved to 802 N. Isabella Street, where she resided until the 90's,

During the early years of marriage, Gladys shared her Sylvester home with her brother Judson and later, her younger sister Edith. This enabled Judd and Edith to be in a location to attend high school.

Being a house wife was a true calling for Gladys Warren. She took her responsibilities very seriously. She prepared meals, cleaned, washed, and managed, together with Wynton, to successfully raise two sons, James Wynton Warren, Jr. and William Griner Warren. She was always offering homemade desserts with a hot cup of coffee to those who paid a visit. Her lifelong commitment was to be absolutely sure that everyone who came into our home was comfortable, satisfied and well fed!

After the passing of her husband, Gladys remained a widow. She continued to reside in Sylvester until her recent struggle with congestive heart failure.

Gladys was preceded by her beloved husband, James Wynton Warren, on January 15, 1978; her siblings, Theo Griner, Oscar Griner, Eunice Johnson, Seaborn Griner, Judson Griner, and James Griner.
