ASHBURN -- The funeral services for the late Mrs. Thelma Louise Cross Gamble of 13650 Ga. Hwy. 112 East, Rebecca, Georgia, who departed this life on Monday, May 6, 2013 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Lakeland, Florida, will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. from the Greater St. Luke Baptist Church in Ashburn, Georgia with the Bishop John F. Bowers officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Hatley, Georgia.
Thelma Cross Gamble was born on May 15, 1937 in Clyo, GA.
She attended Effingham County School in Springfield GA. . Thelma loved the Lord, and was a committed member of House of Prayer Pentecostal Church in Pitts, GA.
She married the late John Nathan Cross in 1955 in Clyo, GA.
Thelma was a mother and homemaker for many years. After her children became older, she worked at the Ashburn Hospital for many years, and at Walkers Manufacturing, Inc. of Ashburn, GA for 15 years.
Thelma decided to follow her heart's calling of loving children. She became a Foster Parent and devoted the remainder of her life and energy as a foster parent for over 40 years. Thelma married James Gamble in 2002, and together they adopted six foster children. Thelma and James were recognized as Devoted Foster Parents with an award from the Turner County Department of Family and Children Services of Ashburn, GA, in 2010.
Thelma leaves to cherish her memories her daughters; Rita Hayward of Orlando FL; Debbie Atkins of Ashburn GA, Ruby Hunter (David) Bennett of Lakeland, FL, Jennifer Cross (Tim) Prather of Fitzgerald GA.; her sons, Napoleon Cross (Regina) of Tampa FL, Tony Lamar Cross (Reitha) of Rebecca, GA; along with two step-daughters, Connie Lake (Maurice) of Ocilla, GA., Faye Gamble (Johnny) of Ocilla, GA.; 17 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; four brothers, Deacon Johnnie Lovett, Milton Lovett, Rodney Lovett, Edgar Lovett, all of Clyo, GA.; sisters-in-law, Jessie Mae Lovett, Georgia Mae Lovett of Daytona Beach, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, foster children and friends.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening, May 10, 2013 at 6 p.m.
