Clementine Hamilton Martin

DAWSON -- Clementine "Teenie" Hamilton Martin died peacefully Friday morning, May 10, 2013 at her residence. Teenie was born October 29, 1928 in Dawson, Georgia. The daughter of Clementine Marlin Hamilton and Arthur Brown Hamilton, she was a lifelong resident of Terrell County. She was educated in the public schools of Terrell County. Upon graduation from Dawson High School, she attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. Teenie enjoyed a career in the music industry after college. She sang in New York City with well-known bands such as the Sammy Kaye Orchestra and made several recordings. She returned to Dawson and was married to Dr. George Fain Martin in February of 1949. They were married 58 years before his death in 2007. They had two daughters, Linda Fain Spurlock and Melody Martin Beck.

Music was a God-given talent and the essence of Teenie's life. She especially loved the piano and shared her beautiful music with so many through the years, always giving her Lord the glory for her talents. She gave freely of her time to her church and community. An active member of the First Baptist Church since 1950, she faithfully served her Lord with her gifts. She was a member of the Adult Choir and the Mary Martha Sunday School Class. Besides being a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, she was a friend to many. Her life exemplified Christian principles and all that know her were blessed by her gracious spirit and kindness.

She is survived by her two daughters, Melody Martin Beck and Linda Fain Spurlock and her husband, Earle Spulock, all of Albany; her three granddaughters, Marlin Spurlock Jones (Kirk) of Albany, Fain Spurlock Davis of Saint Simons Island and Addie Jenkins Chapin (Douglas) of Lookout Mountain, Georgia. She had four great-grandchildren, Gleaton Pace Jones and Cole Hamilton Jones of Albany and Caroline Pace Davis and Virginia Martin Davis of Saint Simons Island. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Sue Martin; a nephew, Bill Martin; and a niece, Cheryl Martin Waddell, all of Albany. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother, Richard Marlin Hamilton.

The family is forever grateful for her loving and devoted caregivers, Beatrice Bullock, Vernee Moore, Pamela Wiggs, Travia English and Doris Pratt Williams.

Services will be held Monday, May 13, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Dawson at 11:00 a.m. A private family interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the Fellowship Hall. Harvey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
