Chambliss seeks to declassify Benghazi e-mails

WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss said on Monday that he plans to ask the CIA to declassify all e-mails surrounding the Benghazi, Libya, attacks in an attempt to make the investigation into last year's assault a national security issue and not a "political exercise."

Chambliss' announcement comes a week after leaked e-mails showed that State Department leaders suggested changes to the official talking points crafted for the Sept. 11 incident, including the deletion of mentions of specific terrorist groups.

"I think the American people deserve to have all the information laid out there for them to make their own judgment," Chambliss, R-Ga., said in an interview with The Augusta Chronicle.

The attack on the diplomatic compound in Libya left four Americans dead, including Ambassador Chris Stevens.

President Obama defended his administration Monday against allegations that it tried to disguise the Benghazi attack as a spontaneous riot instead of an act of terrorism -- charges that Obama dismisses as little more than a "political circus."

"The whole thing defies logic," Obama said at a White House event. "And the fact that this whole thing keeps getting churned out, frankly, has a lot to do with political motivations."

The vice chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Chambliss had a different take, saying that the e-mails "begged the question" of a cover-up and that he plans to talk "off the record" with the three whistleblowers who testified before Congress on the details of the attacks.

"You are going to see others in the State Department and the intelligence community come forward with direct, first-hand knowledge of what happened," said Chambliss, who has sat on three of the four investigative hearings concerning Benghazi.

Chambliss said Monday that the Benghazi attacks "rank up there with every terrorist attack the U.S. has ever had" and that the president should strive to get to the bottom of the matter, instead of "sloughing it off" as off the topic.

"I don't know whether to say he is lying or attempting to politicize the issue ... but he knew it was a terrorist attack," Chambliss said. "I know what the CIA told me, and it was pretty clear it was a terrorist attack."

They should be declassified, all there doing is protect Clinton & that useless you know what in the White House. Sad part is if he was white the libtard media would be having a feeding frenzie with Bengazi, the IRS, now intersepting AP e-mails & phone calls. Wake up people.

I'm surprised they didn't try to cover up the Boston bombing saying it was just some kids playing a prank that went bad.

Between the Benghazi cover up and now the IRS scandal being brought to the light, our fearless leader has managed to tick off not only Republicans but Democrats as well. In the meantime our enemies are taking notes. An administration plagued with scandals the way this one is, can no longer lead effectively. Mr. Clinton liked to play hide the cigar, but at least he would take care of business. (No pun intended.)

Folks its all a show put on by Saxby, he won't talk about getting his hole-in-one while playing golf with Obama last Monday and getting the Prez to autograph the ball. It happened to be a workday for most hardworking Americans. All the media reported this but not our local news media. Wonder why ?? He's Democrat Blue all the way plus much more !

Expect the mainstream news groups to sidestep these revelations and muddy the waters. They have too much to lose if the American people realize that our dear old "watchdog" journalists have been lapdogs instead.

I read a report made by a special forces guy who said a group was getting ready to leave Tripoli on a C130 to go to Benghazi and help. They were told they were not going and the airplane left without them. This regime is in a state of collapse. Benghazi, IRS and DOJ are each disasters, enough to bring down any government. I read where the IRS overpaid a woman on her return $814.00 over 40 years ago and they took it out of her son's tax refund this year. IRS needs to be shut down. The amendment wasn't done properly for it anyway. DOJ needs to be cleaned out and people need to go to jail for Benghazi.

Whatever it takes and whomever it takes to get to the TRUTH. All I'm praying for is the TRUTH just like with Clinton. Eventually the mainstream media had to get a pair and do their jobs. It finally happened with Clinton and it's finally happening now with O'Bama.
