True, and I am sure there is going to be a great deal of continued arguing about guns. There always is when the topic of guns comes up anywhere. I cannot see the Congress passing any law that will ever disallow a law-abiding citizen to own one. Even if it ever went to the Supreme Court I cannot see the Justices in favor of banning guns. The argument is not gun ownership, I thought, but certain guns. Isn't it the TYPE gun, not all guns?
I've yet to see a gun,any gun load itself, point, and pull it's own trigger. Whenever someone gets shot there's always a human involved, with the exception of a mechanical failure that sometimes occurs. Guns are not the problem, it's who has the guns that makes for the problem. You can't slap these little thugs on the wrist and turn them loose again. One day they shoot at someone, the next day they shoot and hit someone. Not that hard to understand is it.
AH is sure trying to bait us into signing up for a FB account so we can "discuss" this topic. I am guessing that if Fryar and I don't post then it won't be a popular SOTD. If we do post, then it will be an interesting day...lol.
I guess for my last post as Sherwood_Eagle_Alum I will throw a little gasoline on the fire.
If you aren't responsible enough to safely protect your gun from unauthorized use then you don't deserve to own one. If you leave a gun in a vehicle unattended then you are being irresponsible. If you leave a gun outside of a gun safe unattended then you are being irresponsible. Irresponsible people shouldnt be allowed to own or possess a gun.
I don't believe untrained citizens should be able to purchase military-style assault weapons or high capacity magazines. I think they are too dangerous and serve no purpose other than as a "show-off" toy. I believe in enforcing the laws on the books and making it hard for anyone to own a gun.
If you are responsible you should be allowed to own a gun, but it shouldn't be like buying a lottery ticket. It needs to require extensive background checks and maybe even a psychological exam. Much like someone must be qualified to handle WMDs people should be qualified to own or possess a weapon. Obviously the qualifications are different for WMDs versus a gun, but there should be rules which are strictly enforced.
I understand that much of the gun-crime is done without a legally purchased weapon, but we cannot make this the Wild West and give everyone a gun to defend themselves. We are civilized...well most of us, and we must model our way of life to improve as citizens and responsible adults.
I will continue to post, but this is my last post under this account. I know I was not popular because of my controversial views on topics such as homosexuality, gun control, race relations, Christianity, and others, but I have tried not to resort to name-calling. Rather I have attempted to stick to discussing the topic at hand. Perhaps I will comment a little differently in the future as I have a career to keep intact.
SORRY TO SEE YOU GO. WE DID NOT ALWAYS AGREE BUT I HAVE RESPECT FOR YOUR OPINION. GOOD LUCK. PEACE.
you called a duck a duck and it was fun. Thanks
Do these dummies ever shoot the gun before they try to use it? They do not even know how to hold it. Shows just how really dumb they are. Guns will always be around like roaches and their illegal owners run in the light of day. With the Muslims trying to take over the world, we need them more than ever. Of course you actually have to have a job to take over the world and that does not seem to be the case in USA.
If you think strict gun control will make us safer, look at Chicago. The thugs are taking over. The armed thugs.
What, Facebook NOT required?!
Think that starts tomorrow. :(
The article said Wednesday. Maybe they've opened their minds!
Wow, another dull topic about guns! The same could be said that knives don't kill people, people do, but knives sure make it a lot easier. Criminals will always have guns, so basically this is a recycled topic that could go on and on with both sides aggreeing to disagree.
SO RIGHT. THE MOVERS AND SHAKERS ON THIS FORUM, HAVING SUCCESSFULLY PUT THE DCSS'S FEET TO THE FIRE, SHOULD CONSIDER TAKING AIM AT THE QUESTIONABLE NPO'S THAT CLOG THE LANDSCAPE AND THE RECKLESS WASTE OF TAX DOLLARS BAILING OUT BAD INVESTMENTS AND LOANS; L'JUA'S, CUTLIFF GROVE, AUNT FANNIES, ALBANY HEIGHTS ECT...
Oh, geez! Grammar 101: It's is a contraction for IT IS (It's time to go; It's not ready, It's not real, etc.) - Its is POSSESSIVE; (Its own place; its nature; its temperature, etc.) I'm sure many of your people have a handful of degrees yet don't have the basic grammar skills! So sad!
????? WHAT TOPIC?????
Shouldn't there be a period at the end of the first two sentences and a comma between " degrees" and "yet" ?
Um, I am sure the " AKA Criminals " love to follow Rules and Regulations. LOL
What if this threat to change the commenting system was like the threat to take away guns? Orchestrated by the higher ups as nothing more than a publicity stunt to generate more hits on the website. I wonder if the gun companies weren't behind the scare tactics of the government supposedly trying to take away everyone's guns. Gun and ammo sales are through the roof.
That would be almost like saying the people that advocate gun control are going around shooting people to prove a point that there is a great need for more gun control.
Gun manufacturers know that the government cannot take away all the guns, but if they ensure that sufficient rumors are spread (Faux News) they can artificially create demand.
What is different now than in December? Same gun laws - Rediculous amount of weapon and ammo sales.
Gun manufacturers are playing chess.
I wouldn't put anything past a CEO. The lack of concern for anything that doesn't put money in their packet is irrelevant to them. BUT, I don't think so. Oh, by the way Sherwood, I did not take Econ 101. Iowa State University puts engineers in Econ 201 and 202 because we already know what all of the little math signs mean.
Gun Companies behind the scare tactics of the government? Do you watch the news? The Obama administration stated their goal was more gun control and numerous Democrats actually stated their goal was to eventually eliminate all guns in private citizens hands.
It's all about money, not your constitutional right to bear arms, in my opinion. Gun companies are cashing in on the scare right now.
Gun companies are cashing in.....on the threat by the Socialist party and Obama administration to limit what you can buy or have.
If the Socialist party and Obama administration came out and stated that they are dropping any attempt to limit the rights of individuals under the second amendment and their actions supported their words you would see normality return. Until they do that, it will continue to spark gun sales and ammo hoarding.
Grammer nazis have no life
You have no period after life.
I have multiple weapons and the weapons are not locked in a cabinet, away from where I need them. I am a highly trained retired military and it does no one any good to take your means of protection and place them in places, that when needed, the weapons cannot be accessed. Why purchase a weapon in the first place? Your weapons need to placed in your home in places where you will be and postioned, so when needed, the weapon can be accessed with ease. A criminal is not going to wait for you to run upstairs or to your bedroom before he rapes your wife and daughter and bludgeons you into submission.
Let's be realistic! The weapon you bought for protection of your family is a useless piece of steel when it is locked away with a locked cable around it, locked in a gun box, locked in a closet or gun safe. With out your weapon you are useless and with out you, your weapon is useless. Use some common sense and plan for and rehearse how you will protect your family.
Gun control is not about hiding your weapon. Gun control is being responsible to have the weapon, train with the weapon, maintain the weapon and if needed, perform a double tap, in your underwear, in the dark, scared of what you are facing.
A gun safe can allow extremely quick access to your weapon if needed. You don't have to solve a Rubik's cube to gain entry. The safe can be in your bedroom, closet, or wherever you need. If you leave it out where it can be found, your children or grandchildren could find it and play with it.
It is very easy to preach about how everyone should have common sense, but in reality NOT everyone has common sense. Do your kids always do what you say? Just because you tell them not to play with your gun does not mean that they will do so when you are not around. If someone breaks into your home when you are away there is close to zero percent chance that they will steal your weapons out of a safe.
I'm not sure if your comments were in response to mine, but I feel they were. With that being said, notice that I spoke of untrained citizens and the need to qualify someone to own a gun. It appears that you would be a trained individual who is qualified to own guns. I would say that you are in the minority of gun owners. That, however, does not mean in the event of a break in that you would be able to access one of your strategically placed pistols even outside of a safe.
I would imagine that every illegal gun was once a legal gun. Perhaps a thief stumbled across a few dozen firearms during a burglary that were not properly secured in a safe.
There is some common ground between gun advocates and gun control advocates but not what is being proposed.
More laws restricting law abiding citizens that will be ignored by criminals is useless. Want to require training prior to purchasing your first gun? Great, I am for that. Want to require that you get re-certified every 5-10 years? Great I am for that too. Want to limit me to 7 rounds? Sorry, that I will not agree to. Want to prevent me from owning weapons of my choosing like an AR15? Sorry, I will not agree to that either. As far as mental illness preventing you from owning a gun....if you specifically define criteria that we would all agree should prevent you from owning a gun I could probably agree to that as well but leave it general with multiple interpretations so that something as simple as seeing a psychiatrist would prevent you from owning a gun then no, I would not agree to that.
As far as reaching your weapon in time...I keep mine by the bed at night and on my side during the day. If you have multiple weapons then a safe is a good idea and common sense especially if you are not home.
Last comment I will be making for what it is worth.
It's been fun debating gun control with you, USTPC. I have learned some things from some of the points you have pointed out. You have caused me to rethink certain views on gun control as I try to be open-minded to a better way of handling things. We will never see eye to eye but at least we keep it civil between us. I think our views are closer than we realize based on some of your last comments.
I always enjoy civil discussions. It helps us at least consider a different viewpoint. :-) I have enjoyed debating with you and others on here. Unfortunately, this will be my last comment on AH due to the change to a FB sign on. I have no need for the headaches that could result from posting controversial opinions under my real name.
Your views on gun control show a total lack of common sense. Good thing you are not a gun owner.
I'm not sure if you possess what it takes to jump in on this debate. You resort to name-calling and I will stay out of the mud. Enjoy your evening, Pappa.
Most suicides are by gun, and most accidental killings done by children are with guns. Wouldn't have one in my home, and unsecured, ridiculous.
That's where one's mental state of mind comes into play and irresponsible adults who don't keep the guns out of reach of their children.
Facebook comments have begun. Guess I will gather my weapons and ammo and seal myself into my survival bunker. Farewell!
Keep your weapons in a gun safe and secured....When the Sh4tbag comes into your house to do you harm, call time, ask him to wait and go retrieve your weapon from the safe. It takes a man less than 3 seconds to cross your living room and cause you harm. My weapons are where needed, where my wife and I can put up a pretty good defense if needed. Also, if you are not prepared to kill your intruders, then I agree you do not need a weapon in your house. Gun control TROLLS will never be able to defend themselves and will always depend on the few to protect them from harm.
Think about the average response time of your local law enforcement, APD, DCP, DCSO and GSP and see if you can survive an attack while trying to defend yourself. 911 is great, 7.62 is what will keep the perps off you until LEO's can show.
I actually prefer a .45 ACP. :-)
