MONDAY

DOUGHERTY COUNTY COMMISSION: The commission conducts its business meeting at 10 a.m. in room 100 of the Government Center, 222 Pine Ave. The commission’s finance committee will meet immediately after the commission session.

DOUGHERTY LIBRARY BOARD: The Dougherty County Public Library Board of Trustees has a called meeting at 5:30 p.m. at the Northwest Library, 2507 Dawson Road, to discuss the library director search and Central Library exterior improvements.

DOUGHERTY SCHOOL BOARD: The Board of Education meets in its monthly business session at 7 p.m. at the School Administration Building, 200 Pine Ave. The 6 p.m. pre-meeting briefing is also open to the public.

TUESDAY

ELECTION DAY: It’s election day in several Georgia communities, including Albany where voters in Albany City Commission Wards 2 and 3 will select a commissioner for a four-year term that will begin in January. Ten voting precincts (1, 2, 3, 6, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17 and 24) are open 7 a.m.-7 p.m. in the two wards.

IT’S FAIR TIME: The 67th annual Exchange Club Fair of Southwest Georgia opens and runs through Sunday at the Exchange Club Fairgrounds, 810 S. Westover Blvd. Gates opens at 4 p.m. through Friday, 11 a.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $6, with parking free. The fair includes the James E. Strates Show rides, the 18th annual demolition derby, music and entertainment, livestock shows.

WEDNESDAY

ALBANY CITY COMMISSION: The Albany City Commission, which normally conducts it meetings on Tuesdays, moves its 8:30 a.m. work session to Wednesday to accommodate the municipal elections on Tuesday. The commission meets in room 120 of the Government Center, 222 Pine Ave.

KINDERGARTEN REPORTS CARDS: Report cards for kindergartners in the Dougherty County School System go out today.

THURSDAY

DOUGHERTY HOSPITAL AUTHORITY: The Hospital Authority of Albany-Dougherty County has a called meeting at 7:30 a.m. in the Willson Board Room at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, 417 W. Broad Ave. No agenda was available Friday.

SWGA EDUCATION SUMMIT: Four state senators meet for a public forum, “The Future of Public Education in Southwest Georgia: The Role of Parents, Students, Schools, Community, and the State,” at 6 p.m. at the Darton State College Auditorium, 2400 Gillionville Road. Sens. Lindsey Tippins, R-Marietta, chair of the Senate Education Committee, and committee members Freddie Powell Sims, D-Dawson, and Dean Burke, R-Bainbridge, along with John Crosby, R-Tifton, will discuss the educational challenges facing Southwest Georgians. Before the forum, the lawmakers will meet at 3 p.m. with region school superintendents and at 4:15 p.m. with region school board members.

SATURDAY

TRIBUTE TO VETERANS: Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park, 2459A Highway 280 West, Cordele, hosts A Tribute to Veterans 9 a.m.-4 p.m., with a 1 p.m. ceremony featuring the Mercer University Pipes and Drums, a flag presentation and the Dooly County High School JROTC Color Guard. The 10th annual Veterans Day Fly-In for radio-controlled model plans held throughout the day. Free admission, but state’s $5 park parking fee applies.

ART PARK MARKET: The monthly Open Air Art Market is 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Art Park on Pine, 129 Pine Ave. Works by area artists and crafters will be on sale.

UNCORKED & UNPLUGGED: The 2nd annual Uncorked & Unplugged fundraiser to benefit Easter Seals Southern Georgia is at 6 p.m. at the Veterans Park Amphitheater at Oglethorpe Boulevard and front Street, rain or shine. A gourmet picnic-style dinner is to be catered by Leon Holloway, of Americus, and live music on the river will be performed by Dread Clampitt and The Jodi Mann Band. Tickets are $125 per person. TODD ALLEN HERENDEEN: The Todd Allen Herendeen Show, a tribute to musical legends including Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash and Buddy Holly, is at 7:30 p.m. at the Albany Municipal Auditorium, 200 N. Front St. Tickets are $40-$50, with proceeds benefiting the SOWEGA Council on Aging. Contact the council for ticket locations.
