Albany weekend crime activity includes aggravated assaults

Two Albany aggravated assaults occurred early Saturday morning

ALBANY —Two aggravated assaults reported in the early hours of Saturday morning were among the incidents the Albany Police Department responded to over the weekend, reports show.

One of them was reported from 310 W. Highland Ave. just before 1 a.m. In that case, the victim stated that while at a club, he was approached by an unknown male gunman who demanded his cell phone and money, said Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman with the APD.

A suspect was later taken into custody and the victim’s property was recovered. Justin Fletcher, 19, was charged with aggravated assault, possession of marijuana and possession of a firearm, Banks said.

The other incident was reported to have taken place around 2:30 a.m. on the 1000 block of West Highland Avenue.

Banks said Edwin Reeves, 25, told police he was walking along the 1000 block of West Highland when three males assaulted him. He told police the men got out of a blue Nissan Altima and that one of them punched him in the face while a second cut him with a broken bottle before all three fled.

Reeves was unable to provide any additional information regarding suspect descriptions, police said. Officers responded to Phoebe North in reference to the case, where Banks said the victim was treated for a laceration on his neck.

No arrest had been made Monday and the case remained under investigation. A hospital spokeswoman said Monday there was no information available on Reeves’ condition.
