Sylvester voters return incumbents to office

Sylvester Mayor Bill Yearta easily wins re-electyion

SYLVESTER — Voters in Sylvester returned their mayor and a city councilman to the City Council Tuesday.

In the race for mayor, incumbent Bill Yearta easily outdistanced challenger Terrell Carter, claiming 404 votes to Carter’s 274 in unofficial voting results Tuesday.

In the contested Ward 4 City Council race. incumbent Larry Johnson was re-elected to a four-year term without a runoff in his contest against two challengers. Unofficial results had Johnson with 62 votes, compared to 31 for Johnny Blake and 26 for Beverly Drayton.

City Councilman Charles Jones had no opposition in his election to Ward 3.
