PREP FOOTBALL: Herald Player of the Week announced/Preview capsules

Wesley Fields, Americus-Sumter

Americus-Sumter running back Wesley Fields fell behind both Lee County DB Da’Quan Jamison and Bainbridge QB Preston Norris in the Week 10 Albany Herald Player of the Week poll, but Fields surged to the front of the pack in the final day of voting to win with 43 percent of the vote.

A total of 1,451 votes were cast for the four nominees: Fields, Norris (36 percent), Jamison (18 percent) and Randolph-Clay RB Cornelius Bennett (3 percent), who has been nominated three times for Herald Player of the Week awards this season.

Fields rushed for 167 yards on 16 carries and finished with two rushing TDs and one receiving TD in the Panthers’ Region 1-AAAA win against Dougherty last week.

Fields and the Panthers take on Crisp County tonight in a Region 1-AAAA showdown that will determine the fourth and final playoff seed from the region.
