ALBANY — Pet lovers have a new place to take care of their pet’s needs, as PetSmart opened its doors this week in Albany.

Located on Dawson Road in the Albany Square shopping plaza, PetSmart is a pet superstore, offering an abundance of items for all kinds of pets. In addition to standard items like pet food, pet houses, grooming items, collars, leashes and toys, PetSmart also offers animal adoption services, animal training and animal grooming services for a variety of common household pets.

“We have just about everything for almost all animals,” said store manager LaVera Callahan. “The customers are extremely excited too.”

Callahan said one reason the company is glad to be in Albany is that now customers don’t have to travel so far to get to the store. Prior to opening in Albany, the closest PetSmart locations were in Columbus and Valdosta.

“We are extremely excited to be here,” Callahan said. “The customers are extremely excited also. They’re glad to have us closer.”

While the store officially opened to the public Monday, there is a grand opening celebration planned for Saturday. Callahan said the employees are really looking forward to getting to the know the patrons and citizens who will be frequenting the store.

“The grand opening is going to be fun,” said Callahan. “There’s going to be prizes and giveaways and great deals. We’re excited about getting to know the community.”
