DOUGHERTY COUNTY COMMISSION: The commission conducts its regular business session at 10 a.m. in room 100 of the Government Center, 222 Pine Ave. On the agenda are approval of a resolution for levy and collection of an annual tax for payment of $32.45 million in Dougherty School District general obligation bonds; amendments to 2013-14 budgets to provide current county employees of record June 30 with a $500 lump sum payment; a rezoning request, and equipment purchases.
ALBANY AVIATION COMMISSION: The Albany-Dougherty County Aviation Commission meets at 5 p.m. at Southwest Georgia Regional Airport for the board’s final regularly scheduled meeting of the year. On the agenda are discussions for food and concessions space options, selection of an architect to provide architectural design services for food/beverage concession space and approval of work authorizations for construction services for terminal improvements, phase 3. The next scheduled Aviation Commission meeting is Jan. 20.
STEPHEN CHAPMAN OPENING: The opening of the Stephen Chapman exhibit at the Albany Museum of Art, 311 Meadowlark Drive, is 5 p.m.-6:30 p.m. at the museum. Free admission.
ALBANY CITY COMMISSION: The commission conducts a work session at 8:30 a.m. in room 120 of the Government Center, 222 Pine Ave. The commission will get reports from their federal lobbyist and on commissioners’ quarterly expenses; will discuss Cutliff Grove Family Resource Center; will get an environmental assessment report on a multimodal location; will take a look at current bids, and will look at alcohol licenses and rezoning requests.
SCHOOL ARCHITECT INTERVIEWS: The Dougherty County School Board architectural selection committee will meet 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. in room 3 of the Isabella Complex, 300 Cason St., for interviews.
MENTAL HEALTH FORUM: Frank Berry, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, speaks at a mental health forum at 3 p.m. at Phoebe East.
LETTERS TO SANTA: For the 10th year, the Albany Recreation and Parks Department launches its Make a Wish Come True with a Letter to Santa program, which continues through Dec. 6. Project benefits children who are spending the holidays at The Bridge or Liberty House. Participants pick up a wish list from the rec office, 1301 N. SANTA ARRIVAL CELEBRATION: Festivities at the Albany Mall begin at 6 p.m. in anticipation of the arrival of Santa Claus. Santa’s Holiday Express will roll in at 7 p.m. and he will kick off the season by lighting the Center Court tree and setting the trains in motion. St. Nick will also make the first donation to the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle, which the mall is supporting along with Toys for Tots.
