Kiwanis Club plans annual pancake breakfast

ALBANY - The Kiwanis Club of Dougherty County will host its annual all-you-can-eat Pancake Breakfast on Dec. 7 from 7:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Tickets are $6, with no charge for children under the age of 6 who are dining with parents. Guests can eat in or take out. The church is located at 2126 Edgewater Drive, just off Dawson Road.

Proceeds help fund the activities and projects of Kiwanis of Dougherty County in benefiting children in Dougherty and Lee counties.

Darton State College Choir sings in the holidays today

ALBANY — It’s never too early to get in the holiday spirit and this year the Darton State Choir is here to help with Ring and Sing in the Holidays on today at 4 p.m. in the Darton Theatre lobby.

Conductor, Harmony Murphy, and accompanist, Meri Beth Hillard, will lead the choir as they sing holiday songs. This concert is free to the public.

Peanut producers in the spotlight Monday

TIFTON — The Georgia Peanut Commission, in cooperation with the national Peanut Buying Points Association and peanut food manufacturers, will host the 2013 Farmer Appreciation Day at the GPC’s office in Tifton from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday.

A brief program is scheduled at 11 a.m. Country-friend peanuts, boiled peanuts, grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and other refreshments will be on-site and available throughout the day.

The GPC board of directors and staff will be on hand to meet with peanut producers and offer tours of the commission’s new office in Tifton.

Bank collecting toys for children in need

ALBANY — For the third consecutive year, HeritageBank of the South is partnering with local organizations throughout Georgia, Florida and Alabama to collect Christmas toys for children in need.

To help make the holidays brighter for children in the community, the Bank has joined with Toys for Tots, Marion County Children’s Alliance, Christian Service Center, Family Connection, Adel Kiwanis Club and The Salvation Army.

Through these organizations, anyone can donate a new, unwrapped toy valued at $20 or less at their local HeritageBank of the South branch. Designated donation bins are located in the lobby at all branch locations. All toys should be donated by Dec. 5 to ensure Christmas delivery.

ATC hosting self-defense workshop

ALBANY — The Albany Recreation & Parks Department and Albany Technical College present two self-defense workshops for children & adults with instructor Edwin Willis, 5th Degree Black Belt.

Attendees will learn basic techniques of self-defense to apply in various real-life situations. Monday’s workshop is for children ages 8 and older; a parent or guardian must accompany child. Tuesday’s workshop will be for adults. Registration is beforehand from 6 p.m. – 6:30 p.m., followed by the workshops from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
