ALBANY — The Dougherty County Police Department is searching for the individual who robbed an East Albany convenience store over the weekend.
The Pitt Stop, located at 3225 Sylvester Road, was hit by an armed robber at around 8 p.m. on Saturday, said Lt. Chad Kirkpatrick with the detective division at the Dougherty police department. Kirkpatrick said that a light-skinned black male about 5 feet 10 inches tall with a slender build wearing blue jeans, a gray button-up shirt, white or tan gloves and a black T-shirt over his face entered the front of the store armed with a black handgun and demanded money from the clerk.
The clerk complied by opening the cash register. The suspect began to empty the slots of the register individually before taking the entire drawer and heading in an eastward direction out of the store. In all, there was about $300 stolen, Kirkpatrick said.
The robber headed north toward Kersh Mobile Home Park, but beyond that, there were no leads as of Monday regarding his whereabouts, Kirkpatrick said.
There were no injures reported. Those with information on the incident or the suspect can call Dougherty Police at (229) 430-6600 or Albany Area Crime Stoppers at (229) 436-TIPS (8477).
