CAMILL — A Mitchell County welder has plugged a prize from the Georgia Lottery. Daniel Aldridge of Pelham won a $50,000 top prize playing the instant game 10X The Money – Holiday Edition.
The 24-year-old picked the ticket while on his way to work. Kangaroo Express No. 3893, 301 U.S. Highway 19 South in Camilla, sold it.
“I stopped for a Red Bull, and I had a spare $20,” he said. “I felt lucky in that moment, and there it was!”
Aldridge jumped up and down over his good fortune.
“I was so happy, I couldn’t hold it together,” he said. “It’s amazing.”
The lucky winner anticipates purchasing a new Chevrolet Silverado for himself.
“I’m also going shopping for my son and daughter,” he shared.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $14.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.6 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.3 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
