TIFTON — The Tift County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the arrest of a Tifton man for improper contact with a minor on Facebook.
In the statement, Tift County Sheriff Gene Scarbrough said an investigation was launched by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Sheriff’s Office after a parent filed a report that her underage daughter had received a “friend” request from an adult male.
As a result of the investigation, a search warrant was issued at the home of the suspect, Marvin Young Jr., 36 of 472 Brighton Road in Tifton, the release stated, and his computer related items seized and subsequently analyzed. Young was later arrested and charged with obscene Internet contact with a minor and eight counts of sexual exploitation of children.
In the release, Scarbrough states that the investigation is ongoing and that additional charges may be filed. Scarbrough also urges parents to closely monitor their children’s social media accounts, and in the event parents notice any inappropriate or suspicious activity local law enforcement should be notified.
