ALBANY — When The Albany Herald asked its online readers if they’d support a book-signing by celebrity chef Bobby Deen, the son of world-famous Southern cook and Albany native Paula Deen and her ex-husband Jimmy Deen, who still lives in Albany, they responded with a resounding “Yes.”
It turns out the hypothetical question was not so hypothetical.
Jimmy Deen told The Albany Herald on Wednesday that Bobby Deen will be in Albany on Nov. 2 to sign copies of his No. 1 New York Times bestselling cookbook, “Bobby Deen: From Mama’s Table to Mine.” The younger Deen, who will make the trip to his hometown with his new bride, Claudia, has tentatively scheduled his appearance from 10 a.m. to noon at the Albany Convention & Visitors Bureau’s Welcome Center at 112 N. Front St.
Tickets that will reserve local Deen fans a copy of “From Mama’s Table to Mine” are currently on sale at the CVB. Cost for the book, which has a $26 list price, is $16.
“The book is selling for anywhere from $22 to $26,” Jimmy Deen said. “But we’ve been able to get copies for the folks in Albany for a reduced cost. Bobby just got married, and his bride — who is Venezuelan — has never seen his hometown. A lot of folks associate Bobby with Savannah, but he was born here in Albany. His reason for doing the book-signing here is twofold: He wants local fans to have an opportunity to get signed copies of his book, and he wants to show his new wife the town where he was born and raised.
“Bobby told me he’s hoping all of his old friends from Albany come to the book-signing so that they can plan a get-together.”
Jimmy Deen said local fans who buy copies of “From Mama’s Table to Mine” will have their names entered in a drawing for door prizes that include an opportunity for four couples to have lunch with Bobby and Claudia at the nearby Hilton Garden Inn at the conclusion of the book-signing event.
Jimmy Deen said that fans who have already purchased copies of Bobby Deen’s latest book or any of the four other books he wrote with brother — and fellow celebrity chef — Jamie Deen, may get them autographed at the Nov. 2 book-signing as well.
