Former President Jimmy Carter is not scheduled to teach Sunday school this Sunday at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains.


First Free Will Baptist Church will host its homecoming festivities Sunday, featuring a sermon by Dr. W. Bradley Hanna, Oklahoma state National Guard chaplain. Sunday school begins at 9 a.m. and the morning worship service begins at 10 a.m. A covered-dish lunch will follow the morning worship. The church is located at 420 N. Westover Blvd.

Mt. Zion Baptist Church, located at 901 S. Westover Blvd., will celebrate the 148th Anniversary of the church and the 22nd anniversary of the senior pastor, Dr. Daniel Simmons, and first lady Diane Simmons and family on Oct. 13.

The featured speaker for the celebration will be Dr. G.V. Clark, pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Austin, Texas.

The anniversary theme is “Celebrating God’s Church, God’s Man and God’s People.”

Sunnyside Baptist Church, located at 320 S. Mock Road, will celebrate its 59th homecoming on Sunday. The Rev. Terry Siniard, pastor of Sunnyside, will conduct the service. The Rev. Charles Jones, minister of music at Sunnyside, will lead the music. A covered-dish luncheon will follow the morning service. Sunday school will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the worship service will begin at 11 a.m.

Central Baptist Church is celebrating its 55th anniversary of its ministry in Albany on Oct. 13. Special musical guest will be the 100-voice Shoals Praise and Worship Choir from Northwest Alabama. Service starts at 10:50 a.m. with a covered-dish lunch to follow. The program is open to anyone, but RSVP the church office at (229) 436-7263 if you plan to attend.
