ALBANY — An Albany motorcyclist was hospitalized with injures early Friday morning when he was rammed from behind by another vehicle, police officials say.
Derik Weston, 23, was driving his motorcycle west on East Oglethorpe Boulevard before 4 a.m. when he was struck from behind by an Isuzu SUV driven by Lashon Johnson, 23, according to a report issued by Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the Albany Police Department,.
Johnson told officers he’d been looking at his dashboard and heard a “boom” when he struck the motorcycle, Banks said. Weston was thrown from the motorcycle, the report states, and landed in a grassy section of the median between west and eastbound lanes.
Weston received scratches and abrasions in the wreck and afterward complained of having “pain all over,” Banks said. According to the report, Weston was transported to the emergency room at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Officials say Johnson has been charged with following too closely, having no driver’s license on his person and having no insurance.
