MELBOURNE, Fla. -- The nationally-ranked No. 2 Darton men’s soccer team battled No. 7 Eastern Florida State with a man down on Friday and still managed to escape with a 2-2 tie in double-overtime.

Just over 17 minutes into the second half, Darton’s Jorge Chirinos was ejected after being handed a red card, but even with just 10 players on the field the Cavs played right with Eastern Florida State, which defeated Darton Sept. 6 in the Cavs’ only loss of the season.

Darton (10-1-1) got both of its goals on penalty kicks from Allan Kuhne -- one in the first half and one in the second half. Both teams were held scoreless in two 10-minute overtime periods.

“I thought we played well,” Darton coach Bart Sasnett said. “The guys played with a lot of heart playing a man down. We had a chance to win, but the ball didn’t bounce our way. It was an up-and-down game, but both teams played well.”

Darton plays again Wednesday at Georgia Military College.
