Former President Jimmy Carter is scheduled to teach Sunday school this Sunday at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains.

EVENTS

Baconton United Methodist Church will host a gospel sing at 7 p.m. today featuring bluegrass group Pickin and Grinnin. The program is open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Greater Fellowship Christian Ministries, located 111 S. Jackson St., will be celebrate Family and Friends Day on Sunday at 10 a.m.

Morningside United Methodist Church will celebrate its 61st homecoming at 10:45 a.m. on Oct. 20. Daniel Stull will be the guest speaker and Kim Whitfield will provide special music. A covered-dish dinner will follow the morning service. The church is located at 121 S. Mock Road.

Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Mitchell County will have an abortion memorial service at 2 p.m. on Oct. 20. Guest speaker will be Mike Keown. The church is located at 775 Pleasant Grove Church Road. For more information, call (229) 224-5633.

Mt. Zion Baptist Church, located at 901 S. Westover Blvd., will celebrate the 148th Anniversary of the church and the 22nd Anniversary of the senior pastor, Dr. Daniel Simmons and First Lady Diane Simmons and family on Sunday. The featured speaker for the celebration will be Dr. G.V. Clark, pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Austin, Texas.

Central Baptist Church is celebrating its 55th anniversary of ministry in Albany on Sunday. Special musical guest will be the 100 voice “Shoals Praise and Worship Choir” from Northwest Alabama. Service starts at 10:50 a.m. with a covered-dish lunch to follow. The program is open to anyone, but RSVP the church office at (229) 436-7263 if you plan to attend.

Cray Chapel Church is celebrating its 88th anniversary. Services are planned the next two Tuesdays at 7 p.m. The Rev. Theodus Drake of 2nd Mt. Zion will speak Tuesday and the Rev. Gary Sanders of 1st Mt. Olive will speak on Oct. 22. The revival will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Oct. 27 featuring a sermon by the Rev. Lindsey Napier Sr.
